In India, e-pharmacies operate in a regulatory grey area as the sale of medicines online is currently prohibited by law, but some e-pharmacies have been operating illegally. The All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD) is advocating against these illegally operating e-pharmacies, citing concerns about the safety and authenticity of the medicines they sell.
However, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) supports the legalization of e-pharmacies that comply with the law and meet certain standards of quality and safety. FICCI believes that properly regulated e-pharmacies could offer benefits to patients in terms of convenience and accessibility to medicines.
So, both sides have valid points, and the issue is a matter of finding the right balance between ensuring patient safety and providing access to medicines through legitimate e-pharmacies that are appropriately regulated.
