Experts in Ahmedabad have stated that the recent surge in prolonged flu cases caused by the H3N2 strain of Influenza A virus is not directly linked to COVID. Instead, they attribute it to the significantly low number of flu cases in the past three years, which has resulted in reduced immunity among the population. Dr. Randeep Guleria, a former director of AIIMS Delhi and the chairman of Gurugram-based Medanta Hospital, has observed a surge in respiratory viral infections since December 2022. He believes that the decreased compliance with COVID-appropriate behavior, including wearing masks and practicing frequent hand washing, is a factor in the recent increase in cases.
